Home Resilience

Stay at Home

Fortify your home for long-term survival and self-sufficiency.

Stay at Home / Fortress Home Strategy

When your shelter is safe and secure the focus shifts to long-term sustainability. Energy self-sufficiency resource management and perimeter security become the centre of your plan.

Pillars of Home Resilience:

  • Water: Use our calculators page to calculate needs per person per day (stored in containers) plus a bathtub liner for emergency storage. I strongly advise acquiring a water filter such as one or more LifeStraw Peak Series units.
  • Food: Bulk grains canned proteins oils and "comfort" foods (use mylar bags and oxygen absorbers to extend shell life). Use our food planner calculator on the calculators page to know the Kcal macros micros and water needs for you or your group/family.
  • Energy: High-capacity portable power station or solar generator see how to build my preferred system in the tutorials page. Calculate your needs in the off grid power planner calculator in the calculators page.
  • Sanitation: Secondary toilet system (5-gallon / 20L bucket style). Use opaque disposable waste bags for collection heavy-duty trash bags and bulk bleach (be aware that bleach loses properties after 6 months).
  • Health: Comprehensive family first aid kit and 30–90 days of essential prescriptions.
  • Climate Control: Battery-operated fans or portable butane heaters (with CO detector).
  • Information: AM/FM/Weather crank radio.
  • Security: Reinforced door hardware and window security film.

The goal is to be invisible and self-sufficient for as long as possible reducing your dependence on external systems that may fail.
